Essay Research - Logistics of Space

The Illusion of Life II: Logistics of Space
Patrick Crogan
  • If the flight simulator is the progenitor of work in 'Artificial Realities', then I would say that it is the founder of a new generation of technology for their animation. A generation succeeding those of cinematographic and videographic animation.
  • The term 'animation' not only characterizes the entire process but also exceeds the sounds of the conventional opposition between live action and animation; and this is indeed appropriate because this opposition is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain under the impact of this new generation, whose various instantiations - including virtual reality and digital special effects cinema - blur easy distinctions between the 'live' and the 'animated' and the 'real and the 'artificial'.
  • As Darley recognizes, computer technology has flourished in a context which "promotes as perhaps its most fundamental tenet a still cominant ethos of optimistic technophilia."
